Bean Donation: Raising Bean Consumption, Sharing Health Benefits

Pulses, Beans & Sesame Seeds Merchants Association donated 2.04 tons of beans to Department of Social Welfare under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement on Thursday. The donation in Yangon is for 15 childcare centers under the department.

Along with the donation is bean consuming activity to raise the habit of bean consumption. The activity was jointly organized by the Consumer Affairs Department, Social Welfare Department, Myanmar Pulses, Beans and Sesame Seeds Merchants Association and Bayint Naung Warehouse and Wholesale Center.

Director General, Dept. of Social Welfare, Dr. San San Aye said “We organized this event as we want to raise the habit of bean consumption meaning we want the public to widely know about health benefits of Urad Dall, Moong Dall  and Toor Dall. We also shared healthy cuisines.

An official from Pulses, Beans & Sesame Seeds Merchants Association said they have plans to donate in other places.

Vice Chairman, Pulses, Beans & Sesame Seeds Merchants Association, Dr. Myo Lwin said “Currently, due to India’s restriction on bean export, the local bean market is in decline.  And, bean consumption habit is still weak in our country. So, we need to raise the habit. We also have plans to donate in Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw as well as Ayeyawaddy and Bago regions.”

Deputy Minister from Ministry of Commerce, senior officials from the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, Ministry of Health and Sports as well as the officials from the association attended the event.
