Hong Kong mourns Liu Xiabo's death

14 July 2017

People from Hong Kong mourn the death of Nobel Peace Price winner, Liu Xiabo, who died of liver cancer while still in custody on Thursday.  Many people had been sitting outside the Chinese embassy in Hong Kong for four days demanding his release. He died at the age 61. He was jailed in 2009 for "inciting subversion of state power" after he helped write a petition calling for sweeping political reforms. He was a prominent dissident since the 1989 Tiananmen Square pro-democracy protests. He died after being denied permission to leave the country for treatment for late-stage liver cancer.
