The 28-year-old sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is promoted to the top decision-making body of the secretive state. Kim Yo Jong was named as an alternate member of the politburo within the ruling Workers' Party of Korea.
It makes her only the second woman in patriarchal North Korea to join the exclusive club after her aunt Kim Kyong Hui. But Kim Kyong Hui had to serve more than three decades in the party for the same status. Unlike her aunt, Kim Yo Jong has now risen to power at an unprecedented pace.
