Mountain Bike Competition: Competing Despite The Rain

Over 100 local cyclists competed in Cross Country Mountain Bike Competition held at North Dagon Mountain Bike Ground in Yangon on Saturday.

It’s is the regular competition organized by Myanmar Cycling Federation under Yangon Sports and Physical Education department.

The competition aims to promote the cyclists’ skills and bring out new cyclists.

Secretary General, Myanmar Cycling Federation, Kyaw Min Than: To enhance cycling sport, we started such competitions 2 years ago. In this competition, there’re 4 categories - under 25, between 25 and 35, between 35 and 45, and over 45. For awards, there’re plates and cash prizes.

All the competitors in the 10-kilometer long route found the difficulties due to the rain.

Cyclist, Naing Naing Zaw: I’m from Pyapon township of Ayeyarwady region. I started competing since I was young. Before, I just participated in regular road bike competition and later switched to Mountain bike competition. As it’s raining, we had difficulties like slipping.

Cyclist, Kyaw Kyaw: I have participated in many competitions and I won 7 1st prizes and many others. I intend to compete in international competitions like ASEAN cross country mountain bike competition to be held next year.

Myanmar Cycling Federation organizes competitions every month and it announced that there will be mountain bike competitions in Mandalay and Bagan in July and August this year.
