New hopes ignite for Germany's grand coalition government

17 December 2017

Germany has now seen a new hope of a grand coalition occurring. It turned up after the SPD previouslyy declined forming a grand coalition with Merkel's Christian Democratic Union and its sister party (CSU).  Analysts say the SPD's decision change is likely to disappointment voters' after they withdrew from the negotiations. However, there are reluctant voices inside the SPD, notably among younger members of the party. This sheds uncertainty on the outcome of the coalition.
