North Korea marks the 72nd anniversary of the founding of its Workers' Party

11 October 2017

North Korea has marked the 72nd anniversary of the founding of its ruling Workers' Party.  Crowds laid flowers and bowing in front of statues and portraits of Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il, the grandfather and father of the present leader. A show of loyalty and respect is routine on major anniversaries and holidays, and it is often organised by work units or other social groups.
