Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV) has organized the nationwide and months-long peace music festival from the first week of July to support the country's national reconciliation and peace efforts.
The 1st round of Level-3 competition of peace music festival took place at MICC-2 in Nay Pyi Taw on Sunday. Auditions took place in the major cities of Myitkyina, Mawlamyaing, Lashio, Pathein, Sittwe, Kalay, Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay, and Taunggyi.
Director, MRTV (Music department), Toe Kyaw said “This festival can attract interest from the young people so it is like promotion of peace process through music. I think more and more people will get interested in peace process.”
There’re 11finalists, and the 2nd round and 3rd round of the level-3 competition will be held at National Theatre and Shwe Htut Tin Ground in Yangon.
Contestant, Zin Thuzar Tun said “I’ve competed with Myanmar classic songs all the way. I tried my best in this round. But I am a little nervous on votes.”
Judges have to eliminate 2 finalists in this round, and votes also count.
Judge, Nwe Yin Win said “The public can vote for their favourite finalists via SMS. I think it’s good to replace the sound of conflict with music.”
The final competition will be held on December 10. The last three winners will receive the largest prizes -- 30 million kyats for the first prize, 20 million kyats for the second prize and10 million kyats for the third prize. Besides, 8 consolation prizes will be awarded for the remaining contestants. The contestants will visit and donate the needy things to the IDP camps in conflict areas, volunteering at the peace programme.
