U.S., Japan step up defense cooperation to counter North Korea.

U.S. SECRETARY OF STATE REX TILLERSON said     "We are prepared. We are prepared militarily. We are prepared with our allies to respond, if that is necessary. That is not our preferred pathway. And that was -- that's been made clear as well."

U.S. SECRETARY OF DEFENSE, JAMES MATTIS said "In light of the serious situation we face, we are accelerating implementation of the 2015 guidelines for U.S.-Japan defense cooperation and continuing to realign U.S. forces in Japan and Guam." "Together, we will deter and if necessary defeat any threat. Any initiation of hostilities will be met with an effective and overwhelming response."
