World Philosophy Day: Myanmar Celebrates 4th Time World Philosophy Day

As November 16th is the third Thursday of November, the World Philosophy Day was held in Yangon with the attendance of Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyoe Min Thein.

The World Philosophy Day was proclaimed by UNESCO, first celebrated on November 21st 2002. And the Day has celebrated worldwide started in 2005. The aim of holding the annual World Philosophy Day is to endure value of philosophy for the development of human thought, for each culture and for each individual.

Secretary, Myanmar Philosophy Association, Myint Swe said “The World Philosophy Day has been held in Myanmar since the year of founding Myanmar Philosophy Association in 2014 and this is the 4th time holding the event in Yangon. The theme of the World Philosophy Day for this year is “Building Peace in the minds of men and women”. The writers Sayar Chit Oo Nyo and Sayar Maung Kyi Thet are going to talk on the philosophy day during the event.”

Myanmar Philosophy Association organized the event with the participation of hundreds of attendees including academics, intellectuals and enthusiasts on philosophy. 

Secretary, Myanmar Philosophy Association, Myint Swe said “The Myanmar Philosophy Association is making efforts to spread the philosophy in the country by conducting workshop, talk show and round table discussion. We also issue the Philosophy Journal two times a year. Most people think in Myanmar that philosophy is not concerned with them but in reality the subject relates to every concept of all works.”

The attendees share their philosophical heritage and open their minds to new ideas inspiring a public debate between intellectuals and civil society on the challenges confronting the society.
