“Gantgaw Yanant”: 16th Yangon University Mid-Term Art Exhibition

As part of the pre-centenary celebrations of Yangon University, the 16th Yangon University Mid-term Art Exhibition “Gantgaw Yanant” kicked off at the Recreation Centre of the University on Monday.

It was organized by the Painting Class of the Yangon University Arts Association in collaboration with alumni and new generation students.

Rector, Yangon University, Dr. Phoe Kaung said “This is handing over activity from alumni to the new generation students. We can also see that the new generations’ masterpieces are getting greater. I am really proud of them. So, I hope to organize an art exhibition which is better than this one at the centenary celebration of Yangon University.”

The Yangon University was founded in 1920 and it will get to 100th Anniversary in 2020. This is 3rd art exhibition organized by the Painting Class.

Organizer, Soe Thu Ya said “We’ve been invited any types of paintings from all universities in display. The number of paintings from the painting class is being a half of display. Among them, the paintings of first year students are at most as the class. And the remains are being display from the other universities.”

About 307 paintings by students from Painting Class of the Yangon University and other universities are on display.

Alumnus, Painting Class, Artist Khin Saw Oo said “I attended the painting class of the Yangon University Arts Association from 1975 to 1979. In the past, the students from universities like RIT, MC and RASU attended the class. But now, we are giving back training to the students of YU only.”

Participant, Painting Class, Khaing Khant Nyi said “My painting is about lotus. And I named it blossomy because Myanmar people marked that the lotus is flawless.”

The 16th Yangon University Mid-term Art Exhibition “Gantgaw Yanant” is set to run till the 9th of this month from 9am to 5pm at the Recreation Centre of Yangon University.
