19th JMC-U Meeting: 1st Day Of 19th JMC-U Meeting Begins In Nay Pyi Taw

The 19th meeting of Union Level Joint Monitoring Committee at (JMC-U) was held in Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday.

At the meeting, Chairman of JMC-U delivered an opening speech. And he explained the implementations of JMC-U and the results of signing the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA). He also pointed out the need to respect and follow the working process and responsibilities, coordinated by both sides.

Chairman, JMC-U, Lt-Gen Yar Pyae said “Work implementations has been carried out by forming the organizations like UPDJC and JMC after singing NCA. It's been four years that JMC was formed and there can be seen the decrease of conflicts and the burdens suffered by the people in those areas where the NCA was signed. Moreover, there are systematic implementations of extracting the natural resources in line with the rules and regulations.”

Also, the Vice Chairman-1 of JMC-U explained the work implementations for peace process among the Ethnic Armed Organizations. He said the informal and official meetings were conducted between the government and EAOs to be held the political dialogoue.

Vice Chairman (1), JMC-U, Saw Isaac Po said “Reviewing and finding methods regarding to ceasefire matters were conducted in addition to solving negotiations among individuals or organizations. Also, the relevant NCA-S-EAOs made agreement to implement the decisions to be coordinated by two sides with government or Tatmadaw or cooperation of government and Tatmadaw by adopting the priority procedures.”

The meeting was also focused on the interval work implementation status between 18th and 19th JCM-U Meetings.

Vice Chairman (2), Rev. Saw Mathew Aye said “During the almost two years between 18th and 19th JCM-U meeting, we accepted it as the period to prepare for peace process. Despite Community meetings Led by local residents, discussion regarding JMC procedure and trainings by meeting relevant organizations and social organizations have been conducted  to decrease people’s concern and procedures for peace process. So, during this period, the role of local residents will be implemented more.”

19th Union Level Joint Monitoring Committee (JMC-U) meeting is scheduled to be held for two days from 7th to 8th of July.
