ADMM-Plus Meeting: Union Minister for Defence attended ADMM-Plus Meeting

Member of State Administration Council, Union Minister for Defense General Mya Tun Oo, Director-General of the Department of International and Internal Affairs Colonel Nyein Chan and officials attended the 8th ADMM-Plus ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting hosted by the Brunei Darussalam, the rotating chairmanship of ASEAN via Video Conferencing at the meeting hall of the ministry, Nay Pyi Taw on 16th June.

ASEAN Defence Ministers, Defence Ministers and Deputy Ministers and the senior officials of defence from 8 “Plus” countries including Australia, the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of India, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, the Russian Federation, the United States of America and ASEAN Secretary-General.

At the meeting, the Union Minister discussed the defence and security perspectives of Myanmar, current latest developments in Myanmar, regional developments on defence and security issues and cooperation, measures responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters rescuing matters, the collaboration of Myanmar and Russia as joint-chairs in counter-terrorism under the framework of ADMM-Plus. After the completion of 8th ADMM-Plus ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting, the defence ministers from ASEAN countries and Plus countries agreed to hold the ADMM-Plus ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting annually instead of biannually. Moreover, the ASEAN-Plus Defense Ministers’ Bandar Seri Begawan statement was released via online marking the 15th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting with the objectives of strengthening cooperation among the ASEAN members and plus countries and the enhancement as peaceful and prosperous ASEAN Community which is ready for the future.
