Myanmar hosted the 6th ASEAN Supreme Audit Institutions (ASEANSAI) Summit on Tuesday via videoconference.
The Summit began with speeches by Union Auditor General Prof. Dr. Kan Zaw and officials. In his address, Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice Senior General Soe Win explained the current situation in Myanmar and issues including elections, efforts for stability, peace, rule of law and sustainable development in the international community based on the international law of equality, fairness, and justice.
Implementation of successive strategic plans has helped promote the capacity of Supreme Audit Institutions in the ASEAN Member States while also strengthening ASEANSAI as an organization. He also encouraged ASEANSAI to continue its efforts to materialize the foundational objectives set on the ASEANSAI Establishment Agreement in strengthening ASEANSAI members’ capacity in promoting good governance ensuring correct financial statements, to prevent misspending and detect fraud in public financial management.
The First Session of the Summit focused on the Consolidated Progress Reports of the ASEANSAI’s Committees and Secretariat for 2020 and 2021, the Committees’ Consolidated Work Plan 2022-2023, the ASEANSAI Strategic Plan 2022-2025, the revised ASEANSAI Rules and Procedures, the revised Terms of Reference of the Knowledge Sharing Committee and the Proposed Legal Capacity.
The Office of the Auditor-General of the Union took over the chairmanship for 2021-2023 during this 6th ASEANSAI Summit. The Second Session discussed approvals of the chairmen of the four ASEANSAI’s Committees, the Consolidated Work Plans (2022- 2023) of the Committees, the appointment of the ASEANSAI Auditor of the Financial Statements for 2020 and 2021, and Proposed Budget 2022-2023 for ASEANSAI activities.
The ASEAN Supreme Audit Institutions (ASEANSAI) was established in November 2011 and the ASEANSAI Summit is held every two year.
