Australian parliament lights up with Indigenous art ahead of recognition referendum

Australia's federal parliament house in Canberra is lit up with projections of Indigenous artwork as the government moves ahead with a proposed referendum on recognizing the country's Indigenous people in its constitution.

If passed, Indigenous Australians -- whose ancestors have lived on the continent for at least 60,000 years -- would have a constitutionally enshrined right to be consulted by the government on laws that impact their community.
