Ayeyarwady Dolphins: 7 Ayeyarwady Dolphins Killed Within 7 Months In 2020

Totaling 7 Ayeyarwady Dolphins have been killed within 7 months from January to July, 2020, according to U Kyaw Hla Thein, in-charge of Ayeyarwady Dolphin conservation unit. 

Two of them are assumed to be dead of ripen age, no reason can be identified for one and 4 were killed by the electro shock fishing, said, U Kyaw Hla Thein. 

According to the data analysis, 6 dead of 76 dolphin founded in 2018,3 dead of 72 dolphin founded In 2019,7 dead of 79 dolphin founded in 2020, he said.

According to the survey conducted under the cooperation of Fisheries Department and Wildlife Conservation Society-WCS (Myanmar) during February, 2020, there were 79 individuals of Ayeyarwady Dolphins.

According to surveys, there are 76 individuals with 6 deaths in 2018, 72 individuals with 3 deaths in 2019 and 7 deaths out of 79 in 2020. Those figures show the requirement of more conservation works, pointed out by U Kyaw Hla Thein.

The Ayeyarwady Dolphins survey trip this year were participated by the responsible officials of Fisheries Department from Mandalay and Sagaing regions and Kachin State, officials concerned from the department of environmental conservation and endangered aqua species protection, officials from Myanmar Maritime Police force and Wildlife Conservation Society (Myanmar).
