Bamboo and Rattan Products: Meeting For Rattan and Bamboo Industry Development

A work coordination meeting for development of rattan and bamboo industry in Myanmar was held at the United Wood Industries factory in HlaingThaya Industrial Zone in Yangon on Wednesday.
At the event, Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi said that Myanmar is rich in bamboo and bamboo resources as well as rattans.
In average, 147 million bamboos and 4.8 million rattans have been produced annually and local and foreign income can seek from it. The Union Minister stressed the needs on more production of bamboo finished products for export, establishing bamboo plantations for the sustainable development of bamboo raw materials that are necessary for the factories, distribution of bamboo saplings and agricultural technique for bamboo cultivation.
Attendees also discussed bamboo and rattan growing, production, cultivation and manufacturing of bamboo finished products and future plans.
The Union Minister then looked into manufacturing process of value-added fished wood products, bamboo products and furniture at the wood-based factory and gave necessary instructions. In the afternoon of that day, the Union Minister inspected manufacturing of teak and hardwood floors, ladders, doors and furniture at the Wood-based factory of Green Gold Industry in South Okkalapa Township.
