Beyonce released a surprise new track on June 19, or Juneteenth. "Black Parade" was announced by the American singer-songwriter and "The Lion King" star on her Instagram account the following day. Juneteeth is a holiday date also known as Freedom Day that marks the abolition of slavery more than a century and a half ago.

The song includes lyrics about Black history and the George Floyd protests. Beyonce demanded in May that more charges brought on all those involved in the death of George Floyd, and called on her 148 million followers to sign a petition. "Black Parade" is Beyonce's first solo release since "Homecoming" last year, and is co-produced by American musician and music producer Derek Dixie.
