Typhoon Chaba was buffeting Hong Kong, bringing high winds and plenty of rain, but no serious damage. The Hong Kong Observatory hoisted its No.8 storm warning late Friday, and early Saturday prolonged it until at least 0800GMT.

Local television showed big waves hitting exposed shorelines, spraying water over some thrill-seekers who braved the high winds to witness the extreme weather conditions.

The Hong Kong Government Flying Service is deploying fixed wing aircraft and helicopters to rescue 30 people at sea after a ship encountered problems during the typhoon, approximately 300 kilometers Southwest of Hong Kong.
