Security forces in Jakarta surveyed the site where authorities said a suspected smoke grenade exploded on Tuesday.

The explosion, which occurred at Indonesia's National Monument park, injured two military officials who have now been hospitalised, the capital's top police official said. Police had cordoned the blast site off for much of Tuesday morning but eventually opened the area back up to the public. It was not immediately clear if the blast resulted from a sectarian attack, but Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim-majority country, has suffered a resurgence in homegrown militancy in recent years.
