BMKG unveils causes of Jakarta air pollution

Jakarta provincial government has begun implementing Work-From-Home (WFH) policy as part of its measures to deal with poor air quality in the city.  

According to air monitoring ”IQAIR” data, air quality in Jakarta and its surrounding area, remain unhealthy even after the implementation of the WFH policy. Acting Deputy for Climatology at the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that poor air quality in certain region is caused by many factors including the emissions from vehicles and coal-fired power plants.

Based on the research by Environmental Department at Jakarta provincial government in 2020, power plant sector including coal-fired power plants was contributed by 6 percent to the poor air quality in Jakarta.
