The 5th BMX Day Myanmar 2020 was celebrated with street challenging activities under the leadership of an amateur sport team Myanmar BMX Association on Sunday in Yangon.

The event began at Hledan as a gathering point and the bikers rode to Thuwnna for fan challenges and to Kandawgyi for many other challenges. It’s a day to show off the BMX skills with heart-pounding street challenges. The street challenges included Game of Bike, JAM Section, Best Trick, BUMPING BIKE and Best Challenger - awards were given to winners. The event also chose the street king of BMX Myanmar.

Founder and President, Myanmar BMX Association, Naing Ye Aung said “Our Association celebrates the BMX Day every year. We have 50 to 100 members. I want our Myanmar BMX bikers get success like those in foreign countries. Amid COVID-19 concerns, the ground where we used to ride remains closed. This event was held following the preventive measures against the COVID-19. I expect support to our sports, and also hope many bikers who we can be proud of at international level.”

BMX Rider, Khaing Htoo Ko said “I joined the BMX association in 2017 and I’m 20 years old now. We have many difficulties - we don’t have own training ground and we make arrangement on our own. The BMX accessories are also a little expensive for us. The BMX Shop Myanmar and the president of BMX association support as much as they can. This kind of sport is popular in neighbor countries but in not here yet.”

BMX is a cycling sport that originated in the United States in the 1970s. The BMX sport is not popular in the country yet. Myanmar BMX Association intended to participate in the 30th SEA Games in 2019 but cancelled for some reasons.
