Soldiers load food, vehicles and other goods onto the largest warship in Latin America, as it prepares to leave the Naval Base in Rio de Janeiro en route to flood-affected areas.

The death toll from the devastating floods in southern Brazil for several days reached 100 on Wednesday, according to authorities, as searches continue for dozens of people still missing. Many have no access to drinking water, electricity and even the means to call for help with telephone and internet services down in many places.

The National Confederation of Municipalities said nearly 100,000 homes had been destroyed by devastating floods in the state, with losses estimated more than $900 million.
