A church leader in California has defended the display of the nativity scene outside the church depicting Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus in cages. The nativity scene was installed on Sunday night showing the Holy family separated and in their own cage, with cage baby Jesus wrapped in a silver Mylar blanket. The scene also showed barbed wire next to the Christmas star.
REV., KAREN CLARK said "This is not unlike public art, this is public theology, this is an intentional display of something that's sacred to us, the holy family is indeed sacred to us and us imagining what might happen to them is a way to raise awareness."
The nativity scene at Claremont United Methodist Church will be on display until January 6, 2020.
