Chilean Cristian Garin clinched the Rio Open on Sunday after beating Italian Gianluca Mager 7-6(3) 7-5 after a tournament heavily interrupted by bad weather finally concluded. Garin's opponent Mager provided the shock of the tournament when he defeated top seed and highly-fancied Austrian Dominic Thiem in the quarter-finals. Third seed Garin, who defeated fifth seed Croat Borna Coric in the semis, has now won nine matches on clay this year. The 25 year old's win secures his move up into the world's top 20 for the first time in his career.
