China Teachers’ Day: Tradition Of Respecting Teachers And Education

China Teachers’ Day was celebrated on Tuesday evening at the Chinese Embassy in Yangon.

The ceremony was held to acknowledge Myanmar educators who have taught Chinese people including diplomats, officers and students about Myanmar language. The ceremony began with a speech from Minister Counsellor Li Xiaoyan.

Head of Department (Myanmar), University of Yangon, Dr. Aung Myint Oo said “It’s the China Teachers’ Day today. The teachers who have served as guest professors and educators in China and teachers who are teaching Myanmar Language to Chinese students at Yangon University are here. The way the Chinese pay respects to their teachers is similar to our Myanmar tradition.”

Many Myanmar language teachers from Yangon University, Yangon University of Foreign Language, National University of Arts and Culture and Confucius Institute Yangon attended the ceremony.

Minister Counsellor, Embassy of China, Li Xiaoyan said “This is the 1st Teachers’ Day Celebration by Chinese Embassy in Myanmar. There will be in the future as well. I'm a Myanmar Language graduate from Peking University. The Chinese Embassy has been making efforts to accelerate cooperation with Myanmar in the field of education, sports, culture, tourism and many others.”

The People's Republic of China annually celebrates Teachers' Day on September 10 – a festival celebrating the 2,300-year tradition of respecting teachers and education in China.
