President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump took part in the lighting of the National Christmas Tree on Thursday.

Trump wished people a Merry Christmas as part of lighting of the National Christmas Tree, a tradition that stretches all the way back to 1923, when President Calvin Coolidge lit a 48-foot Vermont fir. This year's tree was planted in the Ellipse in President's Park in late October. It replaced the previous National Christmas Tree which stood since 2012.
