Crews were demolishing a pedestrian bridge over a Washington, DC, highway that collapsed Wednesday morning and injured five people. The accident happened just before noon on Wednesday along Interstate 295 in Northeast Washington. Investigators believe a truck struck the bridge and caused it to come loose and collapse. Several other vehicles were also involved in the collision. The investigation was still in its preliminary stages. Chunks of concrete and other debris were strewn across the highway and both directions of traffic were expected to be closed at least until late Friday. The bridge was laying atop the truck, which was also leaking diesel fuel along the roadway, officials said.
