Cycling Championship: Nay Pyi Taw And Mandalay Will Organize For 61st Time

61st National Cycling Championship will be held in Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay from 11th to 16th December.

The Myanmar cycling Federation (MCF) will organize the championship with the support of Ministry of Health and Sports and Myan Shwe Pyi Tractor Ltd (MSP CAT). The event is aimed to nurture the talented cyclists representing Myanmar in the regional and international competitions, to develop cycling sports and to raise public awareness on cycling.

Vice-Chairman (2), Myanmar Cycling Federation, Myat Thu said “More contestants who are interested in cycling participated in the previous year. The cycling competitions are also held across the country. But, I think… our cyclists need to be conducted systematic trainings to compete with ASEAN cyclists. So, our coaches have been sent annually to train about cycling to other countries such as Korea and India.”

The 6-day Championship will include six categories; BMX, Road Race, Individual Time Trip, Team Time Trip, Downhill and cross country. It will feature Mandalay-Pyin Oo Lwin-Mandalay roundtrip long-distance race as well as Downhill and Mountain Bike Cross Country event.

Teams can comprise at least four riders, with up to six riders allowed. For individual Time Trial (Road Race), up to 2 members from a team can compete.

Contestant, Kaung Sithu said “I will compete under the Criterium category and it’s my first experience of participating in the National Championship .Cycling is good for health such as body strength. I will try the best to win prizes in the championship.”   

Myanmar will host the Asia Mountain Bike Championship in 2021 and the international race tracks are being developed with the support of Mandalay Regional Government.
