Development of History: Paper Reading Sessions held at National Library

Under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, organized by the Department of Historical Research and National Library, Paper Reading Session with the title “Historical Aspect and A Move of Myanmar Traditional Customs was held at National Library, Nay Pyi Taw on 20th February.

Studying gold leaf making business in Mandalay, traditions of libation and Myanmar traditional wedding, altogether 3 papers were read. 

Director General, Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, Aung Myint, said " Our department has a vision to develop Myanmar history constantly. Doing paper reading sessions is one of the tasks. We have dividing 4 categories. Knowledge sharing and monthly paper reading session by the experts from Myanmar history group, next one is conducted monthly by the officers from our department, and another two types are local and international paper readings by inviting experts from outside. Today event is conducted by inviting the papers from the staffs of department and experts from outside. We annually conducting those and are going to continuously do it."

Deputy Director, Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, Dr. Khin Thida, said " We want to preserve Myanmar Libation tradition of which lasts thousand years and need to make as a historical record. That tradition has existed since before attaining the enlightenment of Buddha, pass through different eras till today. I want to point out with the exact historical evidences."

Department Head, Dr. Kyaw Swe Nyunt, said "For my paper, I first talk about the background and then production processes of Myanmar gold leaf, and write with the aspects of historical and socio economic, then I researched the strengths, weaknesses and challenges of it."

To meet the visions of the Department of Historical Research and National Library, local paper reading sessions are being held twice a year annually and this is the second time for this year, it’s learnt.
