Disaster Management: Assistance Being Provided To Flood Affected People

Flash floods occurred in some Regions and States across Myanmar in July of this year.

According to the report on 26th July, more than 13,000 people of about 3,100 households from 6 townships of Sagaing Region, over 23,000 population of more than 5,500 households from 6 Townships in Mandalay Region, more than 2,500 people of over 670 households in 6 Townships of Magwe Region and 83 people of 18 households from Bilin Township of Mon State have been evacuated at safer places, according to the post of Department of Disaster Management.

With the guidance of National Natural Disaster Management Committee, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement is undertaking rescue measures for flood affected people in cooperation with Region/State Governments.

The Ministry has already provided over 209 million kyats including cash donation for rice and housing materials to flood victims as well as continuous assistance are being provided to flood affected people.

The Ministry also alerts people to take heed of flood warnings by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology and suggestions of the experts.
