The number of domestic elephants in Đắk Lắk, Việt Nam has declined over the past 40 years.

To conserve and expand the purebred domestic elephant herd, the most important solution is to release the elephants back into the wild.

After returning to their natural habitat and receiving medical care, H B'Lú and nine other elephants, whose average age is more than 40, have gradually regained their vitality. With a dipterocarp forest ecosystem spanning over 11,300 hectares, Yok Donn National Park is an ideal natural habitat and a happy home for the elephants in Dak Lak. During the past 30 years in Dak Lak, no baby elephants have been born, despite many intervention efforts and support from humans.

Therefore, elephants must be returned to their natural habitat to preserve the remaining gene pool.
