Egypt's al-Sisi hosts Palestinian President Abbas in El Alamein

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sissi in the coastal city of El Alamein on Monday, a day after Abbas and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh met and decided to form a committee on intra-Palestinian reconciliation.

Abbas thanked his Egyptian counterpart for hosting the reconciliation talks between Palestinian factions on Sunday, who in turn stressed the importance of achieving "national unity." The two committed to strengthening their bilateral ties, and Egypt also reiterated their support for the establishment of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
