Floods In Myeik: Houses And A Rural Bridge Damaged

Flash floods occurred in Myeik Township of Taninthayi Region starting Saturday morning, falling trees and damaging to houses and a rural creek crossing bridge. Low-lying areas in Myeik have been inundated because of heavy rains.

Flood water entered houses about 3-ft in Myeik Taung  village-tract and 26 households have been evacuated in a community hall and a monastery.

Moreover, torrential rains caused landslide in some wards/villages of the township, falling trees on the road. Landslide damaged to 5 houses in Pyinn Nge  village, 8 houses in Phaya Kai  ward of Myeik Taung area and 2 houses in Ale Chaung  village.

The strong wind also destroyed 3 houses in Thin Ka Htee  village, the township General Administrative Department said. Likewise, Taung Shay  creek crossing wooden bridge on Kyaye Nan Taing-Nan Daw Yar  rural road was damaged by the heavy rains.

Now, Special Bridge Group-9 of the Bridge Department is constructing a new concrete bridge near this damaged wooden bridge. The concerned officials, rescue teams, Tatmadaw men, Fire Brigade members and police force members are undertaking rescue measures for flood-affected people, villages and wards in the township.
