Fossil Excavated: Fossilized Crocodile Head Unearthed In Yaynanchaung

A fossil supposed to be a head of an animal was discovered near the security gate – 3045 of oil field to the west from the cemetery of TwinKone Ward, Yay Nan Chaung Township, Magwe Region in recent days.

That fossilized animal head was excavated on 7th July under the supervisory of geologists and responsible officials without damaging the fossil. According to the rough estimate made by Dr. Paing Soe from the Geological Department of Magwe University, the fossil was discovered in the Ayeyarwady Sedimentary rock layers and it might be a head of fresh water crocodile with over 5 million approximate age.

Aforesaid discovered fossilized animal head will be preserved by the department of Archeological research and national library, Magwe Region and carried out the detailed examinations, it’s learnt.
