Golden umbrella hoisted: Golden umbrella hoisted atop historic pagoda in Kachin

The ceremony of gilding the historic Aung Taw Mu Thakya Marazein  Tooth Relic pagoda in Myitkyina of Kachin State, completion of all-round renovation works, merits sharing and golden umbrella hoisting atop the pagoda was held at 8 a.m. on the Buddha Day which falls on 14th May, the full moon day of Kasone Month.

First, the Kachin State Chief Minister U Khet Htein Nam, Commander of North Command Ma-J Gen Myat Thet Oo, Deputy Commander Brigadier Gen Aung Myo Oo and attendees observed 9 precepts administered by the presiding Sayadaw of Wun Tho monastery, Aggamahapandita Baddanta Ketumala and the members of Sangha recited the Paritta Suttas.  

Next, the patron of steering committee for gilding the pagoda and all-round renovation Commander Ma-J Gen Myat Thet Oo reported religious matters and the chief minister, commander and deputy commander and state ministers offered the tiers of the golden umbrella, diamond bud, ornamental vane and offertories to the members of Sangha.  

Then, the golden umbrella, diamond bud, ornamental vane and pagoda’s religious objects were conveyed round the pagoda three circles in clockwise and brought those atop the pagoda.

The gilding the pagoda, conducting all-round renovation and hoisting golden umbrella atop the pagoda are carried out with the contribution of cash donations of over 300 and half million Kyats donated by the Tatmataw members and their families from the military cantonments, battalions and divisions under the North Command, Kachin State government and well wishers from the departments and well wishers in the township and surrounding.

On May 16, the consecration ceremony will be held and offered the rice and offertories to over 270 members and Sangha and nuns.
