People in Minneapolis could be seen running away from what sounded like gunshots during violent protests on Thursday evening sparked by the fatal arrest of a black man, George Floyd, in the major Minnesota city. A large crowd had gathered near a local police station which broke into flames, local media reported, as Minnesota's governor activated the National Guard to help police restore order after protests turned violent. Four city police officers involved in the arrest of Floyd on Monday were fired from their jobs the next day. Earlier on Thursday, peaceful protesters rallied at the Hennepin County Government Center and marched through downtown, demanding the four officers be swiftly arrested.
