Hong Kong announced a new health code application that tracks a user's travel history, similar to the one used in China.

The announcement came while both sides prepare to resume two-way, quarantine-free travel. Authorities said on Thursday the Hong Kong Health Code will launch on Dec. 10. it is designed to be recognized in China's southern Guangdong province as well as in Macao.

It will record users' travel history, as well as their names and addresses. Chinese residents are only allowed to travel freely if they have a green health code. In China, status of residents' health codes may change to yellow or red if they have been in close contact with someone infected with the coronavirus or if they traveled to an area which has local outbreaks.

then, they would be required to isolate themselves. Currently, Hong Kong travelers have to serve 21 days of quarantine in most provinces when they arrive in China.
