Humanitarian and protection: MoSWRR Union Minister meets UNHCR Representative

A delegation led by UNHCR Resident Representative in Myanmar Ms Noriko Takagi called on Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Soe Win at the Ministry on Wednesday.

At the call, they discussed matters on humanitarian and protection measures of UNHCR for displaced persons and refugees by natural disaster and conflict, rendering assistances of UNHCR to internally displaced people in states and regions, coordinations to sign MoU between the Ministry and the UNHCR, plans to cooperate with UNOCHA to send solar lamps that will be presented by UNHCR as humanitarian aid for Mocha cyclone affected people in Rakhine State, domestic travel for foreign employees and entry visa issues.

In the afternoon, the Union Minister attended the donation ceremony of rehabilitation supplies by Yunnan Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (YNPAFFC) for cyclone Mocha affected areas held at the Disaster Management Center.

At the event, the Charge d'Affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar Mr. Zhang Zhonghua and Director of Yunnan Commercial Representative Office Mr. Gao Wei explained about the donation, respectively.

Yunnan Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (YNPAFFC) of Yunnan Province donated rehabilitation aid worth 100,000 Yuan to support for rehabilitation tasks in cyclone battered regions, aiming to strength more friendship between Myanmar and China.

The Union Minister also expressed thanks for the donation and said that the donated items will be used effectively for affected regions. At the ceremony, the Union presented certificate of honour to the Chinese Charge d'Affaires ad interim and the Director of Yunnan Commercial Representative Office.
