India's first home-grown gene therapy for cancer treatment is launched by Indian President at Mumbai's Indian Institute of Technology on Thursday.

India’s groundbreaking achievement offers hope to those lacking resources to combat cancer. The cost-effective gene therapy marks a significant breakthrough in cancer treatment. Gene therapy, primarily employed in treating blood cancers, has seen significant growth in recent years.

Its cost is estimated to be one-tenth that of similar commercial products available worldwide. CAR-T therapy involves extracting a person’s blood and isolating immune components called T cells.
