Inspection Tour: MORA Union Minister Inspected Ancient Buildings

The Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Ko Ko together with deputy minister U Tun Ohn, director-general of Archeological Research and National Museums Department and officials from the Department of Religious Affairs inspected Portugal Church in Thanlyin Township, Yangon Region and colonial era buildings in No (1) oil refinery compound and the director of Yangon branch, Archeological Research and National Museums Department clarified necessaries.

The Portugal Church is 81 feet long, 31 feet wide and 40 feet high was constructed in 1749 by the Rev. Fr. Paolo Marie Nerini  and Rev. Nother Angelo Capello with the contribution of Armenian merchant Nicolas De Agualar.

It is 272 years old and it has been enlisted as an ancient building and conserved since 1904. N

ext, the union minister and party also inspected the colonial era buildings in No (1) oil refinery compound and instructed to preserve them according to the Preservation and Protection of Ancient Buildings and conserve the colonial era buildings to maintain the original features.

Then, the union minister and party paid homage to the presiding Sayadaw of Min Kyaung Pahtamabyan Sarthintaik, secretary of State Sangha Mahanayaka Committee, Aggamahapandita, Aggamaha Saddhammajotikadhaja  Dr. Baddanta Candimabhivamsa, listened to the counsels and offered the offertories to the Sayadawgyi.

Afterward, the union minister and officials held a meeting with the members of Shwedagon pagoda board of trustee, at the trustee’s office and instructed to arrange necessaries for the pilgrims to pay homage the pagoda happily and conveniently and to prepare in line with the COVID-19 prevention and control guidelines of the ministry of health and sports, it’s learnt.
