Int’l Day of Disabled Persons: Sports competitions of PWDs held in Myitkyina

In commemorating the International Day of Disabled Persons 2022 which falls on 3rd December, the very first sports competition for the disabled persons in Kachin State was held at the People’s Sports Ground in Myitkyina Township at 9 AM on December 2nd with the attendance of Chief Minister U Khet Htain Nan and officials.

At the sports competition, the Chief Minister U Khet Htain nan said that the sports competition for the disabled persons with the aims to disseminate the awareness on the issue of disabled persons in the society is concerned not only on the social and philanthropic works but also the social development works related to the whole community and society, to remove the barriers for the persons with disabilities and equally participating of them in the society and contributing their exerted efforts in the nation building and letting them to show abilities of the disabled persons and then the sports competition was opened.

Next, the chief minister cordially greeted the disabled athletes from Myitkhina, Waing Maw and Pha-Kant who will compete in the 14 events of sport competition, presented memorable gifts and viewed the demonstration of Myanmar traditional martial art of Thaing by the girls from Border Areas and National Races Training School and Vocational Training Schools of Domestic Science Women.

Then, the chief minister and officials provided cash assistance of 0.6 million Kyats with 0.2 million Kyats for disabled athletes teams from each township and 0.3 million Kyats for the demonstration groups.

Aferward, the sports competitions organized by State Sports and Physical Education Department and sports subcommittees including race, shot put, discus and 100 meters wheelchair race were held  and the winners were awarded prizes by the state level departmental officials, it’s reported.
