Landslide and Floods: Rescue Measures Continued in Paung Landslide

30 people died due to landslide in ThaePhyuKone Village of Paung Township in Mon State and 29 victims have been rescued as of 12:00 noon on Saturday, according to Myanmar Fire Services Department.

The edge of Thae Phyu Hill fell down due to torrential rain in the early morning, causing damaged to a number of houses and blocked transportation. Debris and soil were removed from the damaged places with the help of machinery.

Officials from the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, Mon State Government, Tatmadawmen, Fire Brigade and Red Cross members as well as rescue teams and social organizations are carrying out the rescue measures and also provided necessary assistance to the victims.

A hillside also collapsed in KaLawt Village in ChaungSone Township in Mon State at around 10:00 am on Saturday. Rescue measures are being carried out by the Township Fire Brigade members.

According to the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, about 46000 people have been evacuated to the safer places due to inundation in Kayin State, Bago, Ayeyawady and Taninthayi Regions as of 9th August.

The Ministry urged the public to request for assistance to the regional offices of Disaster Management Department and the hot line numbers of the Headquarters.
