Legal Affairs: 42nd ALA Governing Council Meeting Held

A delegation led by the Chairperson of ASEAN Law Association (Myanmar), Union Minister for Legal Affairs and Attorney-General of the Union Dr Thida Oo attended the (42nd ALA Governing Council) meeting held through videoconferencing on November 11.

At the meeting, Union Minister and Attorney-General of the Union Dr Thida Oo said Myanmar, as a member of ASEAN, adheres to the ASEAN Charter and respects its responsibilities in the Charter.

Myanmar joined the ASEAN Law Association (ALA) in 2012 and ALA (Myanmar) has been formed in 2013.

And it has been reorganized in 2021 in which the Union Minister for Legal Affairs the Attorney-General of the Union acts as the Chairperson and judicial officers, law officers and lawyers and professors from university law departments included.

The State Administrative Council formed a 14-member Coordinating Committee for the Rule of Law and Justice on June 19, chaired by the Union Minister and the Attorney General of the Union.

The Coordinating Group for the Rule of Law and Justice is implementing the Strategic Plan for Justice for the People (2019-2022). The Bar Council Act was amended on October 28 and chaired by the Union Minister for Legal Affairs and the Attorney General of the Union.

Moreover, Myanmar is also working together with other member states of ASEAN to build the ASEAN Community and achieve regional cooperation, in addition to active participation in ALAWMM and ASLOM activities.

During the 42nd ALA Governing Council meeting, the meeting minute of 42nd ALA Governing Council meeting was approved, a decision on extension of terms of ALA chair and secretary was made, ASnLI Annual Report and 2021 ASnLI Work plan 2022 were approved, the best examples for the enforcement of arbitration decisions within the ASEAN countries were discussed and the openly discussion on the promotion of ASEAN legal documents and implementation among the ASEAN nations took place.
