Literature Festival: Children's Literature Festival Kicked Off In Ahlone Township

Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein attended the opening ceremony of the festival which is jointly organized by the Information and Public Relation Department under the Ministry of Information, the Basic Education Department under the Ministry of Education and Yangon West District Management Committee.

The festival aims to develop reading habits in children with enjoyment, to assist in development of future leaders and to help the children nurtured in reading habits with the fun activities.  

Also, the festival is to nurture the children's intelligence, creativity, verbal skill and love of literature. 

Deputy Director General, Information and Public Relation Department, Dr. Thidar Tin said “Due to the emerging trend of the Information Technology and Social Media like Face-book, Online Games in this 21st century, the reading habits of children especially the Printed Media is lessen. So, we organized children's literature festival (book fair and exhibition) to increase knowledge and to promote the reading habit among the children.”

The festival is open to all students and included scientific laboratory tests and many other kinds of performances showing the students’ abilities and creation, impromptu contest, poem reciting, painting, and various games for children. Book stalls of children literature also included in the festival.

Deputy Director General, Information and Public Relation Department, Dr. Thidar Tin said “There are 9 contests in this festival such as story-telling, poem-reciting, coloring and painting, impromptu talk and many others. Also, the activities including sports as well as art and quiz competitions are part of the festival. A total of 10 booths of book exhibition and amusements for the children also take part.”

The winners from different categories who participated in this festival will be presented with cash prize and other prizes, the Chairman of the Fundraising and Awarding committee of Yangon West District Organizing committee for the Children Literature Festival and the Education Officer from Yangon West District said at the event.  

Chairman, Fundraising and Awarding Committee, Aung Soe said “Cash prize of 5,000 kyats and other prizes will be presented to each winner child who competed in different categories of contests in this two-day festival. We have also planned to give 5,000 kyats cash prize to all children who participated in the contests.”  

Education Officer, Yangon West District, Theingi Mon said “For the children who participated in color and painting contest, cash prize of 5,000 kyats which are donated by the donors from Kyimyindaing and Mayangone Townships will be presented. The materials relating to the color and painting will also be presented to the winners.”

The festival will run till Wednesday from 9 am to 5 pm, it’s learnt.
