On-loan panda dies at zoo in Thailand

A panda on long-term loan from China to Thailand has died at a zoo in the north of the country. Lin Hui had been a big tourist favourite at Chiang Mai zoo since she arrived in 2003 on an initial ten-year deal that then got extended for a similar period. She died on Wednesday morning at the age of 21. Lin Hui came to Thailand with its mate Chuang Chuang.

They were so popular that a 24-hour TV channel was set up specifically to show the pair’s every move.Lin Hui gave birth to a cub called Lin Ping in 2009 through artificial insemination.The cub went to China in 2013 and has stayed there ever since.
