Lula promotes military officers in Brasilia

Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva greeted the first military officers promoted to General by his administration on Tuesday in a ceremony at Planalto Presidential Palace in Brasilia.

A total of 56 officials were promoted from the three military powers, Army, Navy and Air Force.Army Chief, General Tomás Miguel Miné Ribeiro Paiva, the Navy chief, Marcos Sampaio Olsen and Lieutenant Brigadier Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno, from the Air Force, attended the event.

The ceremony that happens three times a year, highlights the new government’s role over the military as Lula carries out his mandate in the next four years.
