The King of Malaysia officiated at the reconvening of Parliament on Monday, following the swearing in of a new prime minister last month.
Ismail Sabri Yaakob was sworn in after the previous Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin stepped down in August after losing majority support. King Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah lauded the bipartisan cooperation to help the country overcome its health and economic crises.
Ismail is Malaysia's third prime minister since a historic vote in 2018 ousted the corruption-tainted United Malays National Organization (UMNO), which led Malaysia since independence from Britain in 1957.
