On Sunday, a work coordination meeting was held to prepare for the 2023 Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Award Presentation Ceremony. The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn, who delivered a speech.
During the gathering, Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn addressed the recent incidents in northern Shan State, characterizing them as acts of terrorism jointly executed by three insurgent groups. He called upon members of the movie industry to take a stand by expressing their condemnation of these acts of terrorism, conveying messages of support and gratitude to the Tatmadawmen, and organizing entertainment programs for Tatmadawmen and families at their convenience.
The Union Minister also urged active participation from all relevant individuals in the movie industry and its affiliated businesses for the upcoming Academy Award Presentation Ceremony. Then, the Director-General of the Information and Public Relations Department provided a report on the preparations and measures taken for the upcoming ceremony.
Subsequently, there was a general discussion among the attendees to address various aspects of the event. The meeting concluded with closing remarks from the Union Minister.
In the evening, the Union Minister attended a signing ceremony for Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) between Myanma Radio and Television (MRTV), Borderless Broadcast Co., Ltd, and Hey Play Co., Ltd.
Following the Union Minister's opening speech, the MOUs were signed to facilitate cooperation in the areas of Direct-To-Home (DTH) service and the rebranding of MRTV's Farmers' Channel and Sports Channel.
MRTV initiated its broadcasting journey with an analog system back in 1980, and in 2013, it transitioned into the Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial 2 (DVB-T2) system, offering 18 channels to its viewers.
The DTH system was introduced in 2022, adding to the broadcasting options available to the public. Myanmar already has three DTH service providers: Forever Group Co., Ltd (Canal+), Shwe Than Lwin Media Company Limited (Sky Net), and MRTV DTH.
With the recent signing of Borderless Broadcast Co., Ltd, this marks the establishment of the fourth DTH broadcaster in the country. Additionally, MRTV and Hey Play Co., Ltd began test runs for MRTV's Farmers' Channel and Sports Channel on August 1st of this year.
