A work coordination meeting of the Steering Committee for organizing Waso Robe offering ceremony by the State Administration Council was held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture, at 2 p.m. on Friday and the Patron of Steering Committee Vice Chairman of State Administration Council, Deputy Commander In Chief of Defense Services, Commander In Chief (Army), Vice Senior General Soe Win delivered a remark.
In his remark, the Patron of the Steering Committee, Vice Senior General said the State Administration Council formed the steering committee comprising of patron, chairman and 13 members, working committee led by deputy minister with 13 members and 10 sub-committees on 11th June. Waso Robe offering ceremony is organized annually but this year it’s coinciding with the period of a resurging new variant of COVID-19. This is a containment period for the third wave of the pandemic systematically by the State Administration Council. So, all are urged to prepare it in accordance with the guidelines, public announcements, orders and directives of the National-level Central Committee for Prevention, Control and Treatment of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and the Ministry of Health and Sports. The Patron of the Steering Committee then elaborated on the background of the Waso-Robe Offering Ceremony during the lifetime of the Buddha. A total of 27 senior monks will be invited to the ceremony. The Vice Senior General also advised on comprehensive assessment on the prevention of seasonal diseases and COVID-19 for the Sangha and the laypersons, as well as coordination among the committee, the working committee and the sub-committees.
Next, Union Minister U Ko Ko clarified the arrangements to organize the Waso Robe offering ceremony successfully, Deputy Minister U Aye Tun explained tasks to be carried out by the working committee and the responsible officials of the subcommittees briefed on the works of their respective committees.
Then, the Patron of the Steering Committee gave a speech of conclusion and inspected the offertories to be offered at the 2021 State Waso Robe Offering Ceremony and Union Minister U Ko Ko clarified necessaries.
