Nomination Dossier for inscription of Mrauk U on the World Heritage List was submitted to World Heritage Center, after finalizing it during the fourth week of January.

The efforts for submitting the nomination dossier has been made since 2017 with the cooperation of the local and foreign experts, departmental personnel, heritage lovers and local people. The draft nomination dossier was submitted in September last year after conducting several field trips to the area.

The amendment and scrutinizing for the draft dossier and integrated management framework was carried out through coordination among the local and foreign experts as well as the officials and staff from the Archaeology and National Museum Department under the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture.

Mrauk U is situated about 11 kilometres east of the Kaladan River on the banks of its minor tributaries. The town is located on a small outcrop of the Rakhine Yoma Mountain Range on the eastern side of the Kaladan's alluvial plain. It is the capital city of the first Rakhine Kingdom. The Mrauk-U Kingdom had an important role in the history of trade and warfare in the Bay of Bengal. The site measures 7 by 6 kilometers and it contains some 200 Buddhist monuments, mostly built in the 15th and 16th centuries AD. Mrauk U houses a rich collection of temples and pagodas in Myanmar, and most of  the temples were constructed of hewn stone bricks.

The most notable temples in Mrauk U are the ShitThaung Temple , HtukKanThein Temple, the KoeThaung Temple and the Five Mahn Pagodas. Although Mrauk U is a primarily Buddhist site, there are several religious buildings of other faiths.  Nowadays, Mrauk U is one of the major archaeological and tourist destinations in Myanmar.
